What is it? In this film directed by Gaylene Preston, we follow Robyn White, an artist from Aotearoa New Zealand. The film feels like an intimate portrait of the artist, as we follow her along for an hour and a half. We see her reflect on her work, we see her create new artworks in collaboration with others, and we see her ponder our shared humanity. Why do I recommend it?
I really liked the pace of the film, with moments of quietness, and others more turbulent. Also, the soundtrack composed by Jan Preston that accompanies us along this journey is beautiful and adds so much to the visual story. But what stood out most to me, was Robyn's capacity to immerse herself somewhere (Kiribati, Japan, Wairarapa NZ), really understanding the area and the people, and then create something that shows such care for that community. I love that the message was really to nurture our close relationships, to care for each other, and to be intentional about the future we want to see.
